Joe has helped me tremendously in many areas of my driving and understanding the concept behind the wheel. I've made great strides in my driving performance thanks to his on-the-go approach, attention to detail, and description of techniques. He is the consummate pro and leaves no questions hanging in the air. He has experienced much and been in many situations that allows him to pass those techniques and situational awareness to myself and other drivers. I decided to take up high performance driving as a hobby later in life and without any previous track or performance driving experience.  I found a car and began signing up for HPDE events in my area. I found I enjoyed the sport more than I could imagine, but I quickly realized it was difficult to find good information and advice in a very competitive and technical culture such as motorsports.  I read, researched and continued to go to events but never really found a way to break through the plateaus that are natural for new drivers.  I was very lucky to have  Joe as a coach at a SpeedSF track event. We spent time discussing my concerns, goals and most importantly the way I learn.  Joe Was able to connect the dots for me and has been my coach ever since. Together we have met every driving goal that we have set.  I have even reached a point where I am competing in organized time trial events, Joe has coached me on most of California’s tracks and has been  instrumental in helping me  achieve success.

Calling Joe an amazing coach is quite the understatement. Joe has a way about him that makes you feel at ease from the moment you hop into the car. He preaches safety above all else so you never feel unsafe, even if it's your first time at a new track.

Joe is always entirely focused on you, and never comes with his own agenda. He is quick to gauge your limits and pushes you within them. If Joe feels you're ready to move past your comfort zone, trust him. His feedback is clear, concise, and easy to digest, so you can quickly make adjustments for the next time around.

With just a handful of coaching days, I've seen significant improvements in both my confidence level and lap times. Even for those of you who are chasing tenths, Joe comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience to get you there.

On top of all this, Joe is truly a kind and wonderful human, and it really shows through his interactions both on and off the track. To be honest, it pains me to give him a glowing review, as that means I'll have to compete for his time even more in the future ... but it is well deserved!

I’ve been fortunate enough to have engaged Joe for coaching on several occasions, across three tracks: Laguna Seca, Thunderhill East, & Thunderhill West. I was not an experienced track driver when I first met Joe -- thus my primary goal was to greatly improve my track abilities under instruction while intimately learning the nuances of these road courses.

Joe began our first session with a casual conversation about my prior experiences, gathering information to understand my goals, and describing his coaching style and techniques to me prior to us getting on the track. Once we hit the track, Joe provided insightful and easy-to-digest pointers throughout our sessions. I saw gains during each session, and often saw sizeable improvements on my prior personal best laps by the end of the day. I’ve always left each day with an improved understanding of the course, as well as techniques that equip me to continue growing my skills independently.

I’ve continued to enjoy trackdays in both self-paced and instructor-led form, and look forward to coaching sessions with Joe as they provide the greatest gains and growth in my skills. His passion and enthusiasm for the motorsports is only surpassed by his personal investment in growing his student’s skills to their true potential.

Joe McGuigan is one of the best instructors. I have had other driving instructors before but his track experience and excellent communication skills combined with his driving skills make it very easy to learn and retain information. I feel more confident in my own driving ability with Joe in the car. He has coached me at Laguna Seca, Thunder Hill East and West as well as Sonoma Raceway. I remember thinking to myself I could probably tackle Laguna Seca for the first time. Nope, I was wrong. I was lucky enough that Joe was not too busy that day. Within just a few laps I was taking turns faster and overall going way smoother. When Joe coached me at Sonoma Raceway, I was going so much faster than before I actually felt brake fade! If you are looking for a patient coach who knows how to teach, Joe is it!
